Rescue Me!!!

Last weekend Jake, Sam and I tried to go to the UCLA Festival of the Books. We were very excited and had been looking forward to it for months. This year Eric Carle was there. For those of you who have no idea who he is, he wrote The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This was one of Marne's favorite books as a child and we love to read it to Sam. We were so excited to see him and have him sign a book for Sam.

We were about a mile from UCLA when the Civic died. Thank goodness Jake was driving. The transmission went out. It was totally dead. No exactly the type of financial undertaking we were expecting during our first month on one income.

The AAA people came to tow the car but as we are quickly learning everything is more complicated with a baby. Sam's carseat could not go in the tow truck. Thank goodness for Lan and Doug for coming to our rescue. They drove to come get us, then braved the 405 to follow to tow truck to the South Bay. Then home to our house. What wondeful friends. It had been too long since we have seen them and they hadn't met Sam yet. Something good came out of our sad tale, we had a nice time catching up with them!!

Sorry Lan, there is no picture of you and Sam, but here is Sam and one of his rescuers Doug!!
